ION changing cues

Concert environment:

I have multiple cue lists each saved on individual faders (as you have no doubt read in other posts :-) )  Each cue list has 4 cues within.  When I bring up one cue I tap the bottom bump to bring it to cue 1 of the list then raise the fader for intensity (faders are set as imasters).  I then tap the bump for cue 2 for the next desired look.  Next i may want to bring up a different cue in a different cue list.  So say cue 1/2 is running and I want to bring up cue 5/1 next.  I tap the bump for cue list 5 while the fader for cue list 1 is still up and of course cue 5/1 will switch on.  I then might want to bring up cue 8/1 so I tap the bump for cue list 8 and it will of course switch to cue 8/1 - while cue list 1 fader is still the only one up.

As I continue to do this of course it leaves the prior cues still set on each fader I used.  When all is done with a song or set of songs I then want to bring up a submaster that is a fixed look on the stage so I would bring that up while bringing down the fader of cue list 1.  Now the fixed look is up for talking, or a give away, etc. but several cue lists are still set on each fader I had used.  I want to clear them all.  Taping the top bump for each one (actually the first tap is all it takes) causes the current look on stage to go to white and home because many of the fixtures in that sub are the same fixtures in one or more of the cues I prevously ran.  The sub is also set as imaster.  I've tried htp and ltp and get the same results.

If I do a gotocue out that also destroys the current sub showing.

For now I wait until I am back into the cue lists again (songs resume) and at the first opportunity I quickly tap all the top bumps to clear them and that does not change whatever cue is showing.  It is a bit bulky doing this.

I realize the question you may have is why would I want to tap a bunch of different cue lists?  Well it works for very fast hard, heavy metal types songs some bands do with very rapid lighting changes.  Much faster than trying to use direct selects or other ways to select fixtures and make all the changes.  When they are all allready recorded its as quick as taping bumps like playing a keyboard.

Any thoughts on how to clears all the cues while not affecting the sub that is up or is the way I have been doing it the only way to do it?

  • I'd have to do that on every one of my faders individually and in my case I actually have 40 cue lists; 20 for led drapes independently and 20 for all other fixtues.  I'm also not sure that still won't affect the current look on stage, which in my case would be a sub.  I want to be able to reset all of them at one time without affecting the current look on stage.

  • Try this:

On the cues you want to have as a static look and reset the other faders you can put an execute on those cues e.g.

    [Cue] [4] [/] [1] [Execute] [1] [/] [0] [Enter]

    [Execute] [2] [/] [0] [Enter]

    [Execute] [3] [/] [0] [Enter]

    [Execute] [X] [/] [0] [Enter]

This will mean when going into cue 4/1 it will execute the command for yours faders controlling cue list 2, cue list 3, and x to go to cue 0 e.g back to the beginning.

The only problem which may still be there is your live state changing. The problem is if you are using more than one cue list and then release it, it will change the live state as you are taking away lights onstage. This is something you expect to happen as you are releasing them. you wouldn't release them unless you wanted those lights to change. I might have missed something but try my suggestion, maybe thats solved your problem.

  • A quick idea to solve that problem would be having a macro like:

[Select Active] [Make Manual] [Enter] - You would use this before going into your static state cue, or you could even apply it to the cue with all of your execute x/0, then when you're happy for the state to change and fall back solely on your static state look, you can use [Select Active] [Sneak] [Enter]

  • You'll need to check it, but Go To Cue Zero, Enter takes levels out.  Go to Cue Out and to Zero do not over-ride sub levels.

If you had a touch screen, maybe leave a Direct Select screen open for Macros, and configure a one button push, screen macro to do the above.

  • It seems to work on the offline editor looking at fader controls. Let us know if you have any problem.

  • Hi Steve,

I didn't realise there was subs running as well I thought it was just faders with cue lists on them. I'm sure you can incorporate a Sub 1 Thru 5 @ 0 Enter macro somewhere if that was the case.

This all seems a bit over complicated...

  • I'll have to try these suggestions to see if any work.  Again, would using a single cue cue list instead of a sub be better for my "fixed" look or would it even matter?
