Ion - patching to Port 2

First make sure your 2nd DMX output is enabled and you know which universe it is set up to use. This is done from the shell. It doesn't matter what it is set to, as long as it does not conflict with the 1st port or any other output. Let's assume it is '2' for this exercise.

Assuming your first LED is set to address 1 on the fixture, the patch would be 2/1 where 2 is the universe, and 1 is the address of the fixture on that universe.

You may know or have done some of this already.

First you need to address your fixtures, so since it looks like you are just putting those units on port 2 (also known as universe 2) you can start the units at address 1. If you want separate control over each unit then you need to sequentially address the other units by how many addresses each unit uses (I'll use 10 as an example). So the first unit is address 1 the next unit is address 11, the third unit is address 21, etc.

Next you need to run a dmx cable from port 2 on the Ion to a dmx splitter then on to the fixtures. You will need at least 2 dmx runs out of the splitter. Dmx supports 32 devices on one run at a distance of up to 4000 feet. A splitter will split the dmx allowing you to use port 2 for all of your fixtures.

Then you need to patch each unit. In patch select the channels you want the units to be. As an example type [1] [thru] [40] [Enter] (All the channels should be highlighted). Now select the fixture type by clicking "Type" and search for the correct unit.

Once all the unit types are set you can patch. The long way to patch would be each channel one by one. For universe two you can type a [2] then a [/] then whatever the address is. For example [1] [at] [2] [/] [1] would patch channel 1 as the Colorado addressed at 1. If all your channels and units are sequential a quick way to patch all them would be [1] [thru] [40] [at] [2] [/] [1] [enter]. That will patch each unit as the correct address as long as they are sequntial and are the correct unit type. I hope this helps.
