Show + RDM-Fixt.

Folgendes Problem:

  • English Translation:

Using Lustr+ in Eos Shows in different modes, dependent on

    which show is being used.

When device discovery is activated in patch, the console

reads the modus from the Lustr and uses it.

Is it possible for the Lustr to automatically take over

the Mode that is saved in the show file?

Tried making a macro, but it didn't work trying to get into ABOUT.

Anyone know if this is possible? To have the D40 to switch

its mode to the mode in the Show file? Or is it possible to have

    this possible in an update?

  • This is a problem with other RDM fixtures as well- EOS device discovery overwrites fixture types in the existing showfile without warning.

Fro example, I have a bunch of Ocean Optics Seachanger XG color changers.  When RDM device discovery is turned on, the EOS changes them to "Seachanger 4 chan"- which maps the fourth (green) wheel to a dimmer wheel and links it to the intensity attribute.  Therefore, when you fade the channel intensity up the green wheel rolls in.

This is in part because the Seachanger's RDM response string is the same for all models and doesn't differentiate between the XG and dimmer wheel types.  Ideally, the Seachanger would respond with a different response for each model so that EOS could pick the correct fixture type.

On the EOS side, it would be good if there was some way to reconcile the information in a show file versus the results of RDM discovery and not have the console change fixture types automatically.

  • Todd,

I am having this exact problem with my Seachangers. Do you know of a solution, or am I going to have to assign the intensity to a different channel?

    -Michael

  • Michael,

My current solution is to disable Device Discovery (in the Patch tab) once the Seachangers are patched and then change the fixture types to "Seachanger XG  4chan".  As long as you don't re-enable Device Discovery, the fixture types won't be changed.

  • Todd,

    That worked! Thanks!

One more question: Is there a way for me to tell just by examining the Seachanger unit what model I have? I have inherited these Seachangers from an ME who apparently doesn't believe in documentation, and I've never worked with Seachangers before...

I have determined based on the addressing that I have the 4 channel variety, and it's quite apparent that I don't have the HID or wash models, but I also saw that there is a "Seachanger XM 4chan," and I have to admit that I wasn't sure what that meant. Is there a difference between XG and XM?

    Thanks again.

    -Michael

  • Michael,

The Seachanger XG has a green parameter along with the CMY.  And the Seachanger XM has an additional Magenta parameter.  I would recommend patching either profile and using the encoders one at a time, see what color the 4th is.  I am not sure if there is any designation on the unit itself.

    Todd,

You have the correct workaround for the RDM devices.  Once you have discovered the devices, disable Device Discovery and you can repatch it as the device type that you want.  If Device Discovery is enabled, Eos will always use that discovered device type and won't let you repatch it to something else.
