Manufacturer: MicrohModel: LED Par 64 RGB WashProblem: strobing in Augment3d
We have some inexpensive LED PAR fixtures that we've been using for a number of years that work fine in real life but don't come on and only strobe about once a second when I bring their level up in Augmet3d.
They are Microh > LED Par 64 RGB Wash. There is no asterisk next to their profile in Patch so I assume I'm using the most current profile.
In Moving Light Controls the Color Picker works, so they will strobe in any colour I choose. In Form: the Shutter Strobe is set to Intensity, (not Strobe) and the Shutter Strobe Rate is at 0.
Changing the rate makes no difference other than it switches from intensity to Strobe when the rate get to 190 or higher.
... any thoughts? Am I overlooking something obvious?
I have a copy of the manual with DMX Chart if you need me to send it in. These fixtures have two modes, Mode 1 - 4 Channels, and Mode 2 - 6 Channels
This is definitely a bug with the profile. If you could provide the manual, I will pass that along with the bug report for the team to remedy.
There is a workaround for now if you need it, which involves updating the existing profile. Delete and re-add the intensity parameter, re-assign intensity to DMX 1, and delete the "locked value" parameter that pops up during the deletion. Once you select 'save fixture', any channels patched to this profile will automatically update and should stop strobing.
Thank you Beck, that worked a treat, they aren't strobing in Augment3d anymore. How / where do I send the manual? I don't remember how to do that, sorry.
Glad to hear it worked! You should be able to include a link or insert a file in a reply to this thread.

Hi Beck. Some additional information. This modified profile doesn't work properly in the real world. While this work in Augment3d, in the theatre, with the real fixtures, as you dim the up form zero, they come on and increase in level as you'd expect, but at around 70% or 80% they start to strobe, and the strobe speed increases as you approach Full. They stay on steady at Full. they do the opposite when dimming them, strobing fast just below Full, with the strobing slowing as the level drops, until they stay on steady below 70% or so and then dim the rest of the way down. I had to go back to the library profile to get them to behave for the show.
Just to clarify which profiles are doing what, are you saying that the profile you manually edited causes strobing in real life but not in Augment3d while the original profile causes strobing in Augment3d but not real life?
Q: ...are you saying that the profile you manually edited causes strobing in real life but not in Augment3d
A: Yes, weirdly, yes. Had me scratching me head a bit. I'm using the profile that uses 4 DMX addresses
Q: ...while the original profile causes strobing in Augment3d but not real life?
A: Yes, that is what is happening.
Ahhh I found what you are running into, the manufacturer included a strobing section in the intensity parameter from what I see in the manual attached above:
DMX 000-189: dimmer, dim to bright
DMX 190-250: flash, slow to fast
DMX 251-255: no function
So it looks like this is the intended use case.
Thanks for checking. I can live with it strobing in Augment3d for now, I only use these along with the house lights so they aren't on during any shows, except under unusual circumstances. I expect the profile will be fixed eventually.
