I don't know if this has been asked for yet but are there any plans to create a Hog 3 PC version for PDA's? Now that the Hog 3 product line is networking well it would seem to be the next step.
This has been requested before, but it is not in any of our immediate plans. Converting the software to make it work on PDAs is very time consuming and must be weighed against other higher priority requests. In the mean time, laptops and tablets (which are getting smaller and smaller) work very well as a remote device.
There are some pretty small PC's out there. I am not sure how functional they would be as a remote, but they might work ok. Here is one I had looked at, but have not used...
I agree with your point about notebooks with touch screens working quite well and as these new members have illustrated - there are some very interesting (if not quite expensive) WLAN solutions. I also understand that software development for new PDA's would be time consuming and take the development team's focus away from higher priorities. That being said... I've been exploring PDA remote control for another manufacturers control system and I'm really liking the size, convenience and functionality of these devices. For example, the HP iPAQ series are highly rated and available just about everywhere. I think jumping from riser to riser on stage with a PDA in hand would be more preferable than attempting the same with a PC Notebook. The probability of this remote control getting damaged during load-in, focus, sound check, rehearsal is significant. Replacement cost and availability are in the PDA's favor.
This has always been one of my biggest wishes.. it just needs to be a very basic editor, if you take it to real basics, i would only need select fixtures, groups positions, to editor, and maybe record positions ml's. Theese days more and more cell phones also runs windows mobile 5 os, not only the pda's.. -I've always ment that a laptop/tablet as remote, is not a substitute for a pda sized remote.. I can't have that in my pocket up on the grid, or in the lift, etc..
