Replaced DL2 video card

What model video card came out and what model card did you replace it with?

The card that was taken out was replaced with an identical card.

It was a ATI RADEON X850 XT 256MB PCI-E DUAL DVI video card.

Which DVI port on the video card did you plug the DVI cable in to? On the X850 video card, the DVI plug should go into the top port on the card. This differs from all of the other video cards we have used, where the DVI plug goes on the bottom.

If you have the DVI cable plugged into the wrong port, it will cause issues like you are seeing, where nothing comes up on either display.

Yes. It is plugged into the top DVI port. This would still not explain the loss of the front panel screen though if I understand correctly?

Actually it would. When the DVI cable is plugged into the wrong port, it messes with the way the ATI drivers assign the displays and will cause problems with both of them. You won't get any output on either display.

Out of curiosity, where did the card come from that you used as a replacement? Are you sure the replacement card is completely functional?

We got the cards from our computer supplier. They are new cards out of the box. It is good to have the knowledge of the way these displays work.

So it would be safe to say that a replacement card should have just come up and worked the first time? I was unsure whether i needed to reinstall XP or not. I will try the second replacement card as well. I hoped it might be something like the "projector defaults" type of reset but sounds worse!!!

That could be the issue. There are MANY flavors of X850 out there that all are a bit different. We key off the internal identification of the cards so if it isn't *exactly* the same model we used then it may likely not work.

If you are going from one model card to another model card within the specific models we have shipped with then it does require reloading the XPE recovery image to properly initialize the drivers. If you can post pictures of the card and the model number markings on the back of the card then it will help identify.

On closer inspection I found that our supplier had sent us an ATI x850 XT Pci-E card and not the card I asked for which should be an ATI x850 XT PE Pci-E. I'm sure this will fix it as this card they sent me has got different specs . I will let you know.

Hi Jabba,

One thing to be aware of is that the card needs to be the EXACT card that came out of fixture. Meaning, it must be ATI branded. ATI sells their reference design to other companies to produce (such as PowerColor, HIS, etc). While these cards are technically the same as the ATI X850 that is in the fixture, each one of these cards has a unique Model ID. Our system will only recognize and correctly configure the ATI branded card based on that model ID.

I did some quick Google searching and I see that there are some refurbed and even new ATI X850s floating around on the web, so getting the right card shouldn't be too much of an issue. Just wanted to make sure you didn't waste a bunch of time with the knock-offs!
