ION Bootup issue

We recently purchased an ION console and have loved working with it.  However, we have noticed an intermitent problem.  Every now and again when we boot the console, none of the softkeys appear/function.  We also cannot change displays using the display key.  Is this a software bug, or a possible flaw in our console?  We are able to work around the issue by rebooting and everything will be functional again.  Any ideas??

    I had a problem this morning when my Ion booted up and my LCD screen showed only "Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Scroller" and no softkey information.

    Changing parameter pages didn't change anything.  However, knowing somewhat where things were, hitting "Focus" I could still do pan/tilt, etc. and

    was even able to get to turn on fixtures by knowing what softkey was lamp ctrls.  I exited Ion (is this a reboot, or do I have to actually shutdown the console

    and restart to reboot??), and nothing changed.  The console acted normally otherwise, going cue-to-cue, and since I didn't have time to switch back to my

    Expression 3, I'm sweating it through 3 services hoping there aren't any surprises.  I'm on 1.4.5 and have my 2x20 fader wing physically connected to the left

    side of the Ion.  Is this a software issue?  It hasn't done this since I purchased the console about 6-7 weeks ago.

    Another "me too".  Client was experiencing it on 1.4.2. They would lose the encoder labels and softkeys just after startup - fixed with one or several restarts.  Also experienceing issues with 2x10 wing display (attached to desk).

    I'm also in this boat. I didnt see it happen until I upgraded to 1.7. But it indeed happens now. I thought it was hardware after a move but restart fixed just like everyone else. Any more info on this?

    I am just adding my name to the list of those experiencing this issue.  The fader wing issue I have had since first purchase.  At first I had it bolted to the left side of the Ion and it turned out the screws that bolt to two sections together pulled the fader wing out of alignment with the Ion causing my 'random' blank problem.  I then bolted it to the right hand side and the problem seem to lessen.  Then when I upped to 1.7 the problem got worse and the soft key issue also worsened.  Let me know the fix.

    It doesn't happen to me every time, but it did again yesterday.  No SK light.  No Live light.  The LCD screen would not repaint, so even though I could get to different SK page functions, or fixture parameters, etc., unless I could remember what the softkeys did for these different functions, I was screwed.  After working with the console for, say, 20-30 minutes, the SK LED and Live LED eventually came on, but the LCD never would repaint (some days it will).  I did not take the time to reboot because I have some Cyberlights that I have to re-focus/update focus points, etc., that I just stayed with it the way it was since I was only running cues yesterday.  I was also hoping that the newest software version would fix this problem, but it didn't.  Actually seems to be worse than before I upgraded. . .

    To everyone who has posted on this thread, please know that we are working on this issue. I’ve found this problem very hard to recreate in our labs, and I would appreciate all the help I can get from the users to track this problem down.  I’d like to collect as much information as I can about the LCD freeze and the state of the console when it happens. 

    The next time you lose your LCD screen, please snap a picture and answer these questions to the best of your ability in an email to:  ion@etcconnect.com

    • How often does the LCD screen freeze? Every other boot? Every 10th boot? (1000’s of boots here and I’ve still never seen it with multiple consoles.)
    • When it does freeze, does it go back to the “ION” screen when the application is exited? What happens if you exit ION, then go back into the ION application? Does a hard reboot always fix it?
    • What USB devices are plugged into the console? i.e. Keyboard, mouse, flash drive, ETC Fader wings? (How are the wings connected? If on the side of the console, are they screwed together properly? If connected externally, were they powered on before or after the console booted?)
    • If the problem occurred at start up: Did it show the “ION” logo in the beginning? Did it draw the boxes for softkeys and encoder labels? Are the labels filled in? Does the command line cursor blink? (Pictures would be great!)
    • If the problem occurred after a period of operation:  How long did it work before it freezed? Do you remember your last key stroke? Is the entire screen frozen, or do certain areas still work? (Soft keys, Encoder labels, Cue list display, command line) Again, a picture would be great.
    • Are you using DMX or networking to communicate to your rig? If networked, is Local DMX turned on in Settings->Networking? Are you running in a multi-console environment?
    • Do the facepanel key LEDs still work? (Live, blind, clear, park etc)
    • Did you insert or remove a USB flash drive, mouse, or keyboard before the problem occurred?
    • Is there any other information you can tell us that you think would be helpful?
