ETC Ion does not show latest Show file

Last night, (25th) we had a power failure just before our show. Therefore, our Ion console lost power. On reboot, it opened a new show file that was blank. When we went to load the show file, it only had the show file from the 23rd. However, we had made changes on the 24th and saved the show in the evening. What has happened to that show file..?

The show file just cannot be found. Even from exploring the show files in the shell, we cannot find that show file. Also, have tried to read the save logs, but cannot read them properly. We know we will have lost changes made on the 25th, but the changes and show file from the 24th should be there....

Any suggestions or help would be great.

  • You might want to try and get some help from the Tech Service folks with this one.

    Good luck

  • 20/20 hindsight and for after you get this figured out.

There's a USB port below the power switch and I leave a drive in there all the time.  I also backup to that every time I save to the HD.

  • Miles,

Very sorry for the difficulty you've been having.

When you were saving the show files, were you using the Browser, the Update + Select shortcut, or a macro? All should work fine, though macros may have a few variances involved.

If you'd be able to send the logs to hans <dot> hinrichsen <at> etcconnect <dot> com, I can take a look at the logs and see what may be going on.  In that email, if you could note the approximate time that you saved, it'd be helpful.  Also, if the console's time is different than that of reality, nothing the date/time offset would be helpful as well.

While it is possible for a user to delete show files from the Browser, it is unlikely to be stumbled upon by chance.

  • I hope you find it. I'm sorry for your stress. It pains me when I hear of people not having battery back up.

I always run a lighting console with UPS battery back up. Sometimes I even have my opti's on UPS.

I prefer to save often; it's a hold over from years ago, on computers.  The heavier the programming day, the more frequent the saves. The minimum would be at lunch and at wrap.

On my Ion, I have a macro for the hard disc recording, and I do a browser save on the thumb drive.

  • Ditto on Gerns post

UPS's are required.  You don't want a lightning hit taking out your console and a UPS will help protect against that, as well as mostly eliminating the 2-3 minute re-boot for a dip/glitch in the power off the street.

Backup ritual is every half hr. so you only lose more then an hour.

Now if only the CEMs in Sensor racks could ride out the momentary interruption all would be well. The 30 or so seconds sitting in the dark after the power comes back on and the emergency lights go out is disconcerting.

  • Check out the CEM 3, there a "ride thru" option.

    And yes you can upgrade!

  • I have no idea what actual pricing is, but I would guess you are suggesting spending a couple of thousand dollars to provide a few seconds of backup as the capacitor discharges. It seems to me one should be able to add a battery and charger circuit to the output stage of the power supply for my existing CEM for significantly less than that.

  • Everything is a trade-off. A full system retrofit would do a lot more than a battery backup.

Is there a way to add just the backup? Sure, but without UL, warranty and even insurance issues raising their ugly heads...

Is there a market for a retrofit "ride-thru" for CEM+? I can think of a few facilities that would like it! I would advise that it handle a CME as well. A large percentage of the systems I've seen have both processors.
