Submaster mixing (LEDs)

Tried searching for an answer but no luck as yet.

I'm running Chauvet Colorado Tri Tours and LEDJ Omni Tri LED lanterns along with ETC Paletta floods.

I'm trying to set up each group of lanterns on each of Red, Green and Blue output on groups of 3 subs, with the aim of being able to mix those groups on the fly for each given area.

However I'm struggling - despite trying exclusive, independent, and various other options I cannot get them to do wht I need.

Any suggestions?

  • Hello Ynot

Are you just recording single parameters into the subs? So set the Red to full and then say [Channel Numbers] {Red} [Record] [Sub] [X] [Enter]. Then just do the same for the other  parameters.

    Hope this answers your question?

    Nick

  • Hmmm...

No - Bringing channel master levels to full, then setting RED to full on the colour picker then[Channel Numbers]  [RECORD[ [SUB] [X] [Enter]...

I'm guessing that's not the way then...

  • You didn't follow Nick's syntax.  You left out the {RED} part, which would be crucial if you wanted to just record the RED parameter.

Also, even after you do that, you are going to realize that bringing up the RED submaster isn't going to get you any output unless you have the unit's intensity up as well.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hmmmm.....

Ok -  It works for me outline. Bring the channels to full setting Red to Full and then [Channels] [RED] (using the CIA to select red on the command line) Record sub X. If you don't put Red before record you will record the whole channel.

Does that work how you want......

  • @Xander - You mistake me - I was describing what I'd been trying thus far. :)

  • Yet I do believe that's sussed it - it was the RED (eg) in the CIA that was the kicker - thanks.

I'm trying to subtly play with this whilst running the gig at the moment - fortunately it's the sort where I can get away with some judicious fade ins/outs, though I am having to take care!!

    Cheers

  • Dragging up an old topic... Haven't needed to run from subs of late, but me being dense again, referred back here and though I've typed in just what was above, I can't seem to get the colours alone to behave properly on the subs.... Has any syntax changed in recent releases??
  • it hasn't changed.

    two things to note:
    - if you already have too many parameters on Sub y, Chan x Red Record Sub y Enter will not overwrite the whole content with the new content. delete the sub first (Delete Sub y Enter) and then record again.
    - you need to change the home values for your colors. for your application you need them at 0 but they default to 100. either edit the fixture personality in Patch > Fixtures, or record the color values at 0 into a preset and then make this preset your Home Preset (Setup > Show > Show Settings > Home Preset. (the latter is not possible on an Element)

  • Hey, Trying to do pretty much the same thing today on an Ion XE20 and coming up with similar results.
    I'm not really sure why.

RGB colour mixing on submaster faders.
I recorded the subs in Live using pre-recorded colour palettes.
Now, when the Red sub is run up while the Blue is at full, I just get a colour palette snap to red. No mixing.

I'm not experienced on the Eos family, we just upgraded from an Express, so hold my hand here...
I assume it has to do with my use of the colour palettes, but the original command line you suggested confuses as idk what {red} means.
Is that a Key? Do I colour pick again? Is that a CP?

    Thanks anyone!
  • it's the same notation ETC uses in the manual (and the education workbooks) : [hard key], {soft key}. so {Red} would be something you find on screen. more precisely you can find it in the CIA on the left side. there are what's called the parameter tiles.
the reason why you have to to this is that you need to tell the console that you only want to record the red parameter to the fader.
  • THANK YOU!

Bottom Left of the CIA helps... I was looking for soft keys up top, not buttons on the left.
  • you should delete your current red/green/blue subs and start fresh, it's easier that way, believe me ;)

Delete Sub x Thru y Enter
  • Whilst it will as probably be easier as ueliriegg says to start again, I'll give the instructions as to how to see how the sub is setup (which will probably make it obvious why it was wrong) and how to edit it.

On the Subs tab, select the sub you want. (make sure you only have one selected) and press the edit softkey.

You will get a tombstone or table or spreadsheet display, if its not the normal table display press format until it is.

To make it so you only see the channels in the sub press flexi and then active.

Now you should see the channels and the red, green, blue values.

You can now edit them, select each channel

You will want to remove the green and blue values from the Red sub, so click on green and blue and then do @ enter.

(@ and enter will no value clears a value in EOS)

That should do it, repeat for the other colour subs. (I think I've not missed out a key stroke but if so should still be fairly obvious)
  • Thanks.
I'm so used to the Express treating 0 as -null-, I didn't register the Ion treating 0 as an Absolute value..... which in retrospect, makes total sense.

Everything just takes a few extra steps with the Ion. I can't just record a stage look into a sub, I have to record the Intensity of these specific channels & then the colour(s) + Intensities of these channels....
    ....Learning curve.
  • Not sure what you mean when you say "you cant just record the look into the sub". You don't need to do bits separately.

Record Sub 1 should record all current values to Sub 1

In fact the problem you originally had with wanting the subs to separately record red, green, blue was because they were storing all the values and you only wanted the red value in the red sub.
