Hog Ipc in the cold

it's quite late since you wrote, but... now here it's winter and I've seen something related.
i've done many architectural shows in past weeks. I needed to prepare video shows projected over some buildings, with IPC and me for many hours outside. It was around 5 degrees in the noon and 0 degrees in the night. IPC has booted up correctly, but didn't recognized everytime the USB front Panel: wheels, buttons, faders and trackball. In the diagnostic tool that USB front panel was in a disconnected state. I solved that putting a big infrared lamp over and waiting until the surface came warmer. The strange fact is that I have'nt had expected problems like frozen motherboard or similar. In fact everytime has booted up, without control surface connected. There's a USB connection to MB, maybe that's the point.

Degrees F or C?

The problem you describe might not be related to weather. If you have installed the latest full version software 3.0 (XPe Image 8.3) you might see this issue as others have reported similar issues here.

Try re-imaging the desk to the 2.6 (XPE 8.2.2) release ISO and then upgrade the iPC config panel followed by H3PC to v3.0.0

I have had an IPC down to -30 deg f. I have always warmed it to room temperature before using. Getting it to at least 50deg f. Everythingworked fine.

This past fall I had a HOG III come off a truck cold (New England) and on power up had the same issue. Both monitor UI (hard buttons and touch) didn't respond. Reboot fixed it. Rest of the weekend it worked fine.

Loaded v3.0.0 - everything ok with the software, but control panel problems remain. If we keep the console in a warm room we have no problems, but if we keep it in a cold environment, more or less 5° C, we are sure to have the problem. This is resulting from tests that we are doing in our shop. I'm sure that it's depending from the hardware.
We are needing to use the board outdoors because we are programming some achitectural video shows outdoors.
We are working around the problem running the show on a PC but we are in northern Italy, not in Alaska and it's the first time we have this kind of problems with a light board outdoors. Catalyst server and all the other equipments are working perfectly even if kept in a cold environment for a month.
Any suggestion's from HES ?:)

Definitely sounds like a hardware problem specific to your console....I've run iPCs in both around that temperature and much colder as well.

I would have a good look at your wiring harness that connects to front panel to the lower PCBs and make sure there is no extra stain there and check to be sure the connectors seat well.....if it gets cold the connectors could, theoretically get a bit smaller so if it is slightly loose the cold might make this issue worse.

Worth a look anyways.
