Is there any way to plug in more than 2 external monitors to a hog 3? Ideally I can see using 4 external screens. Two touchscreens and two flat panel displays. Any thoughts?
The Wholehog OS only supports four total screens. There is no way currently to expand to more. We have talked about adding support in software for more screens, but then you still would also need hardware changes to gain more monitors on the Wholehog 3.
Out of curiosity what windows are you trying to display simultaneously that you feel you need six screens?
I just typed a three thousand word response that got erased by me being timed out. Le Sigh. Here's the highlight reel.
For instance, when editing FX, Programmer, Output, and FX Editor are all full size, which only leaves one screen for the breakdown of palettes and FX list.
Ideally I would always have Programmer and Output as full screens on external non touch screen monitors, which would leave me with four screens to distribute palettes and list pages.
As it is I currently have different views for different processes, and some processes take bumping through two or three different views to complete. Which can also get tricky if I am editing a cue, switch to a view that doesn't have the cue sheet active, it will close said cue sheet asking me to update the cue.
Mainly though I just some more space to easily select something and throw it into a look without having to bump through my views.
It's just a kinda wishful thinking. I love this console, this is the first real time I've gotten to spend really extended time on it, and I feel that the things you guys have done to the software is brilliant. I keep discovering new tricks that constantly make me sit back and go, "Hey, that's really neat!" I also love that you guys are still evolving the product. I'm sure there will be more things that pop into my head, but for now it's bedtime.
One suggestion might be to incorporate a networked in Hog3PC. You could leave your Output and Cuelist on the 3PC and then use your III to utilize the existing 4 screens. It would also alleviate some of the graphic strain on your main system and push it over to the networked PC.
I know that although it doesn't always workout, I try and keep my programmer and output as a split top and bottom screen and then I can put something on the other external monitor. Just my get-around, but I do realize that sometimes you want more. The Hog PC idea is a great one.
The Hog 3pc is a pretty incredible idea. I agree that programmer and Output don't need to be on separate screens, but it would be nice! I'm going to start looking into the h3pc thing. Sounds like it could work out to be very versatile.
While we are sort of talking about hardware improvements, I'd also like to see more USB ports, I'm currently running with a USB hub, which sometimes makes me a little nervous. But when Flash Drive becomes supported, and with more and more places just making USB keyboards, if I'm running two touchscreens, I don't got no where to plug in!
Thanks for the explanation. Regarding the USB ports.. buy some wings as they provide more ports! :) I understand your desire for more USB and you should be ok with a USB hub.

Since the software is free...and more than likely you have a PC sitting at FOH, it would probably be the best option. Put it on the network, disable ANY and ALL internet traffic and setup your IP and console number and you should be good to go.
I second the networking idea. I do that with my laptop and it gives me an extra non touch (wide screen so it's actually 2 hog displays displaying one of which i use to display output) plus the internal touch screen on my laptop that I usually have the cuelist window open on to activate virtual CLs. I'm with you, i like seeing everything without having to sort through windows. This leaves me my 2 external, and 2 internal touches, in which i usually have a full size programmer window , color, beam windows split, position and chosen master split, then efx editor and efx split.
I've found that it's pretty stable as well, assuming you do not disconnect the networked PC/desk, while anything is active (efx, etc.) otherwise the desk running server will act a little funky.
