Also as a follow up to this, I have 3 views recorded that all have the same windows open except that one of the windows is the color directory which scrolls to different places, i have a 4th view that has the output window in place of the color directory. I set all 4 of the views to be "Additive". If I selected one of the three views with the color directory in it and then selected the view with the output window and then went to one of the three views with the color directory, the color directory doesn't front. It's open behind the output window, but it seems like it should front since it's part of a view that was selected even though it's already open in the background. Does this make sense?
I was using this as a workaround to not being able to store the views directory into a view, setting the 4 views mentioned above to not be additive solves this problem but then closes the views directory.
Thanks for the reply, I'm still not having any luck with this, are you able to get this to work? I tried having the view window not be active when recording the view but as soon as I press the "View" button on the views toolbar, the views window becomes active. I tried this also with Guard on and off and that doesn't seem to make a difference. The non-additive idea that you describe below is exactly what I would like to do, but again I'm not able to get the views directory store in a view, additive or non-additive.
I tried also this, no success. But I think there might be a some kind of workaround for this. You can use List directory and lists with Recall View (RV) macro. Just press Record and list directory button to record empty list and use Open List # to open it and add comment macro.
I have looked further into this and learned why you can not currently record the views directory into a view. If you were to record a view by pressing record, then the "view" button this would cause the view directory to pop up so you could select a view cell (much like recording a palette). In this case, you did not have the view directory open to begin with so you would not want it recorded. So there is a rule to never record the view directory.
However, since most people hold Record and then select a view from the toolbar, the view directory never actually pops up. So we decided that we could make a change to allow views to only record windows that are actually opened and not "popped up". Once we make this change, then it should be possible to record the views directory into a view.
Interestingly, this has never been requested before. I have logged your suggestion as item #13239.
