Wholehog III & WYG Connectivity

Trying to interface the Wholehog III to a Wyg computer. With the Hog III not connected the Hog Connectivity wizard just says searching for Hog network and WYG works a fine as it should.

When I connect the computer to the Hog and then launch WYG, it get a error code 998 when I open a WYG file and WYG chasers. I have the Hog and the WYG computer connected to a DHCP network and using static IP addresses. The Hog console is set to boot server only.

Same subnet, same gateway and DNS for both. No firewall or AV. I have tried both the same user number as the console or different one and neither seems to make a difference.

I have deleted the Hog Connectivity and reinstalled it. It doesn't help.

Any thoughts? What is error 998 and why does connecting the Hog Cable crash WYG?

Thanks.

  • I had the same problem a few months ago.
What version of Wyg and Hog software you have?
What OS are you running. I had the problem with Vista 32-bit Ultimate.
  • Make sure that ALL other network connections are disabled on your WYG computer (WiFi etc...).

There is currently no good way to tell the connectivity driver which network adapter to use, so it may be "looking" at the wrong one.

There was an older version of the connectivity driver that would crash WYG if you made certain changes to your showfile, but it never prevented connection in the first place. Make sure your console and connectivity driver versions are the most current ones and that the build numbers match.

    Hope this helps. :)
  • Thanks for the replies. Hog ver. 3.1.6. Connectivity version 2773. Wyg R25. Win XP Pro 32-Bit.

I've had issues in the past with newer versions of the Connectivity driver so I've had to back down in versions and that seem to help. This time it didn't help, so I went back to the current version.

I will try making sure that I have the other connections disabled. I am going to also swap out Hog IIIs and see if that makes a difference.

    Thanks.

  • HI

I have the same problems like tbslyter ... and same error message.

There must be some networks problems by Wyg and Hog... - course now I use Wyg-it2 I dont have any problems... so it is nothing about memory etc.

    I use W7 32bit... - Hog3 3.1.6.
  • Hi,

Have you tried adding a "virtual" DP-8000 to the HOG III, clone the universes from the physical DP-2000 and then connecting to the DP-8000 in the WYG?
  • Almost certainly a network problem. Very important to disable all but the used network adapter for WYG and also to ensure that you don't have any stray or abonned WYG.exe processes running in the processes tab of task manager which could have been left behind from prior failed attempts to connect.
  • Have made sure there is only 1 network connection running. Have made sure there are no extra WYG processes in the background.

I have added the DP-8000 and cloned the DP-2000 universes.

I either get a error 998 or it says "idle...waiting to connect." When I try to connect manually in WYG it won't let me.

    All AV/Firewalls are turned off.

  • Still can't get this to work. I either get an "Idle...Waiting to connect" in Hog connectivity window and WYG works fine but won't let me connect to a Hog III DP or DP-8000: or I get an error 998 and WYG crashes.

    Thanks for any help.

  • Hi,
Re Install of Windows has solved many a strange problem in the past with WYG.
Now that is from several years ago, and might not have anything to do with this problem.
    A few practical tips:
    - Search the IP of the HOG and the WYG computer and write them here
    - Ping the HOG from the WYG (Open CMD and write PING XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX = ip of hog)
    - Check wiring, replace wiring, change Router / Switch
    - Check connection LEDs on Router / Switch
    - Make SURE the DHCP of the router is shut of, not possible on many cheap Switches..
    - Connect the WYG to another computer and ping it, just a malfunctioning NIC?

I really look forward to hear how this was solved.
  • WYG Computer connects to other computers fine. Hog sees visuliazer in the network window, but just says idle. WYG sees Hog, says show session on the IP and port 6600 but just says idle "waiting to connect" or error 998 and crashes.

Network lights on the Hog appear to be flashing normally.

Normally it would says "can't connect to Hog" or "Unable to get show file handle" if there was an issue. But here it acts like it's connected but it will not let you connect in WYG and you don't get the normal status of "Outputs Active"

I have auto connect set to off. When I try to go into device manager and connect it just says it can't connect.

    I have reinstalled WYG.

Console is connected directly to WYG computer. Made Hog DHCP and used default settings. Tried both crossover and standard Cat-5 cable. We even swapped consoles and nothing helped.

I have a DP-8000 on user/net # 1. I have a DP-2000 on user/net # 2. I have tried to connect to both of them in WYG. I have tried to user #1-3 for the WYG. Nothing seems to help.

  • Travis,

Give me a call here at the HES office and I'll help you get up and running.
  • It would be great if you revealed what solved this issue.

    Thanks
  • Hello,

I have the same error here, I would really like to know the solution of this problem.

  • Erik,

There are a couple of different problems tracked through this forum. Which issue in particular are you running into right now? Error 998?
  • Hello Chris,

Yes I meant error 998, When I set wysiwyg to connect on load the connectivity program gives me this error and shuts down wysiwyg.

I have the latest hog software and connectivity program,

    gr.
