Cyberlight issues

Hello all squints,

Got a question and would appreciate some help if possible. I'm trying to repair a cyber that isn't accepting DMX--the fixture lamps on, fans work, and the connections to the PC board from the jack are reading continuity. Any words of advice? :684: Thanks to all.
  • sounds like either a problem with the logic board or the 14-pin harness that goes between the PSB and the logic.
  • The logic board has been replaced. Here's what happens when I connected DMX and turn on the instrument: it powers on, the lamp strikes, the fans work, but the cyber won't home. When I run everything in test mode, everything works. All the personality switches are off when I switch back to 16 bit DMX mode. (I've also checked to see that the DMX line running to the instrument is clean, and it is). Thanks for the help.

it defintiely sounds to me like that 14-pin harness that connects the PSB to the logic has gone bad
  • [quote=chris_litz]Have you tried addressing it the same as another Cyber that's working OK?

    Does the receive LED blink?

Turn it on w/o DMX, let it home & time out until the fans stop running. Plug in DMX, does it home?

I work on a cruise ship and have to send my cybers out to an electronic technician on the ship that doesn't know cyberlights. He understands how to fix electronics but wasn't trained to do them--that's why I'm asking. I unfortunately don't have time to personally repair them--he does it and I offer him suggestions as best as I can.

Yes, I have tried addressing it the same as another cyber, and the receive LED blinks. Before I rehang it, I always test it on the ground with a DMX line I know works.

In test mode, everything works. But the info LED is very intermittent or non existent. Thanks to everyone for their advice.
  • Make sure the locks at the XLR inputs are locked down! That middle hole in the 3 pin configuration. Loosen the 3 phillips head screws on the end, if you can push the board towards the mirror they are not locked down.
  • [quote=chris_litz]Have you tried a different logic board in the bad Cyber? Try a known good working logic even if that means you have to take one out of another Cyber in the rig.

If the other board works OK then have your tech try replacing these components:

    DZ1
    DZ2
    R35
    R36
    IC9
    IC12
    IC21

Thanks--I have had him replace the logic board before as well as the power supply board. The unfortunate matter is that I'm the only one with decent DMX testing equipment and their workshop is a few flights from the theater on the ship. I'm going to try and coordinate with him so that when he's testing it I don't have to lug the dang thing all the way upstairs first. :aargh4:
