studiopix merge 8 fixture together

hi
can you tell me the way how can i record letters to 8 studiopix to run like on bar like this www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwP3EVPzrkk

i don't know how to explain better than this
thanks
  • You would probably want to look at pixellage. Details can be found here: highend.com/news_events/news/news_detail.asp?news_id=528

I dont think there are letters in the content provided with the SHOWPIX and studiopix fixtures. I think custom content would definitly have to be "custom" because of the shape of the array, if it was an LED wall it would be different because the wall is square, but this is not so with Showpix. My friend can make content at competative prices, so if you are looking for custom content, please feel free to email me directly at mail@joebleasdale.co.uk and I will be happy to hook you up.

    Regards,
  • Both StudioPIX and ShowPIX have letters in their stock content. I'm pretty sure it's in the "Icons" folder under "Alphabet. Using these along with an X offset on the layer can give you a scrolling effect.

You could also use pixellage as Joe suggests.

To access the letters and numbers on the SHOWPIX and StudioPix
    call up the graphic layer
    media folder - "ICONS"
    media file - "2"
media frames - to dial through the alphabet

Note - You must set the "Mode" on the graphic layer to "Media Mode Static".
This will allow you to use the media frames encoder to scroll through the alphabet. Then use X offset or pixellage to create the scrolling effect.

    Regards,
    what do you mean 8x1
  • By 8x1 I mean you have 8 of the fixtures in a line going left to right..?

You must patch both graphic layers.
If you do not the fixuters may not respond correctly.
    Patch as follows
    1 x StudioPix Standard
    2 x StudioPix Image

Standard will be first followed by both graphic layers. They must be patched in order.

yes i know that the hes recommended 2ximages but i patch only one and for now on i don't have any problems
it's olso work when you patch showpix file to studiopix fixture
  • Sonyboy

If you patch a SHOWPIX and your fixtures are StudioPix, for the most part they will work, but keep in mind that the studiopix has fewer leds so we had to adjust the graphics so they will display correctly.

Some images may not look as good since you have the wrong fixture patched.

Also keep in mind that the protocal is setup to run both graphic layers. You may run into problems if you do not patch both layer.
  • If you want it to scroll like the video, you can do this a couple of ways. You can build a long chase that takes the letters from right to left. It is time consuming but can be done.

The other option is to create a video file and use the pixelage function. You can then map the entire video across all 8 fixtures, but you would have to render out the video file for any changes. In order to use the pixelage, you'll need to make sure your fixtures are networked and you can access the ECHO program from a laptop to talk to the fixtures.

I use After Effects to create my scrolling text for right to left. For top to bottom, I just use the alphabet and the y position function. It all depends on what you're looking for.
