Blinking led house lights

The facilities director switched the house lights to the led version of par 38 bulbs, if I buy evl10 dimmers will that fix my issue with blinking bulbs?

  • Not necessarily.
We might be able to figure this out, but I need to ask a bunch of questions
-Can you describe the specific blinking you are seeing? Is it all the time, only at specific values, only when their levels are moving through a specific range?
    - What are they currently connected to (Sensor ( what type), Unison ( what type)?
    - How many per circuit?
    - Do they all blink or just some of them?
    - Can you provide any more information on the bulbs? Such as:
    - Brand
    - Are they dimmable?
    - If dimmable, are they designed to dim via forward or reverse phase dimming?

This will help us on the way to figuring it out.
  • You can send lamp manufacturer and model/part number information as well as the information David requested above to aesupport@etcconnect.com.

ETC's Applications Engineering maintains a database of lamps and fixtures we have tested with ETC dimming systems. With the information above we may be able to provide recommendations on improving the dimming performance of the lamps and any results we've seen in the past.

Additional information on fixture testing can be found at: http://www.etcconnect.com/uploadedFiles/Main_Site/Documents/Public/Dimmer%20Compatibility%20Testing.pdf
  • We have a sensor sr48 rack, 3phase 4 wire 50/60hz 100,000a 240vac
    With a unison CME Control
    3-6 bulbs per circuit
Blinking occurs as bulbs go bad, about one bulb per month over 16 circuits
Bulbs blink when on at any range
Ecosmart bulbs, rated for 120vac 60hz, dimmable
  • These are LED? Typically these bulbs should last 20-30 years according to the manufacturer, and you are having lamps fail? How long does a lamp last in a fixture?
  • Fail rate is between 2 and 8 month, I'm not sure if the bulbs are phase forward or reverse. Could the issue be the 120vac bulbs and the system being 240 vac?
  • Benjamin, are you with Covenant Life Church in Grand Haven?

If so, our records for job number 108780 suggest you have a 120v original Sensor CEM (aka "Classic") rack system.

Unless your rack has been upgraded to a CEM+ running recent code or to a CEM3, I'm afraid ELV modules are incompatible with your system.

If compatibility testing (info above) suggests ELVs will work better for your loads, that upgrade is something you could get quoted from a local dealer.
