Windows 7

I have had success using my laptop (an HP HDX18) running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, and running most current verisons of recent ETC software. Windows 7 Ultimate (maybe some other versions do too) has an 'XP Mode' that you can download from MS, a virtual version of XP that it can run. Using XP Mode  has allowed me to use Light Manager. It's a bit kludgy, since XP Mode doesn't like recognizing my old Iomega USB floppy drive as a locally attached drive - so I can't directly save to it directly from LM, but it's a simple enough task to drag .cfg files around and copy files from the XP Mode virtual hard drive to the mapped floppy from the real world. Just remember to copy the LCD font files and such at the same time or your LCD will look broken.

** I have not had success using LM in this virtual XP mode to connect to a CMEi on the network, though I have not spent very long trying.

Hello all!

So I just upgraded my computer to a windows 7 64 bit machine. The issue I'm having is getting smartsoft to see my smartfade 2496. I have confirmed that both my PC and the console are running the same software version and can confirm the drivers are installed. I was wondering if anyone else has ran into this problem and what  they did to fix it? I was reading that windows 7 isn't supported as of yet so I am sure that's all it is, but it doesn't hurt to double  check! Thanks in advance!

Hi John -

The problem is that you are running 64-bit Windows (Vista or Win 7, neither 64-bit version is supported). The driver for SmartSoft to communicate with the console is only a 32-bit driver and will not work in 64-bit operating systems. We are working on getting a 64-bit version made, but I don't have any date for you yet.

Thank you kindly for the speedy response Sarah! Its good to know you guys have something in the pipeline for windows 7 64 bit.

SmartSoft 'Live' control (connecting to a console) is not supported at all under 64 bit operating systems at present.

Unfortunately there is no workaround - the driver architecture is quite different under 64 bit OS, so the existing 32bit drivers don't work.

We are working on 64 bit SmartFade drivers, but this will take a while to complete.
