Chan 289 & 290 & Boom 2 SL

I'm having a couple of difficulties with the "Advanced" project.  Specifically in focussing conventionals

I can't get the shots for the lanterns on Boom 2 on Stage left.  For example here's the Fixture POV for ch 253 and the Focus Note for it.  In A3D I can't see most of the staircase on SR that is supposed to be the target for this lantern.  Are the positions in A3d correct or are some "mistakes" intended to be found?

Also the last focus note is for Arri Window, channels 289 and 290.  neither of those channels are in Patch.

  • according to "Howell's Magic Sheet" 289 is part of the hamilton plot but not a part of the project.

  • HI Lee. You got it. This is a mistake that needs to be corrected. The Downstage brick column is a skin I added over the set import. It is the issue. Go into A3d edit and move it Downstage. You should get the shot then.

  • Thanks David.  You've done a great job setting up this model for us to learn from (or simply play with)

I've adjusted another of your bricks objects - for birdie 307 - so the skin comes to the Onstage side of the column so that the birdie is illuminating bricks rather than a grey I reduced the X position to -68' and increased the Y size to 1.3'

So I've now focussed all the conventionals - Project 6: Moving Light Focus up next.

Oh and I did notice a discrepancy for Channels 101 to 104, Focus notes says there are 2 units per channel but the model only has single parts for these.

  • Thanks Lee. Yes, 101 - 104  should have 2 as you caught in the paper work. I probably should have made a list of all of the "easter eggs". to check against when you had done. I think that's all of the brick object fix's. Have fun with the Moving Lights. Its not a small task but worth the time. The overhead view is your friend for many of the ML focus's.

  • So the deliberate mistakes have graduated to Easter Eggs?? Nice.

The Feet and Smiley face ones are lovely.  The S4 Lustre was sneaky.  But the random beam angles were tricky.  I've got inverts and swapped shutters to find yet.

I guess that I'll have go back to conventionals and add second parts for 101 to 104 then.  Didn't realise I should have put "Spoiler alert" on the previous comment!

  • HI Lee. You're right not sure "Easter Eggs" was really the right way to describe the errors!

  • Hi all, I’ve re-read and re-read this thread to try and understand what I need to move but I just can’t get my head round it! For Ch253 even if I move a columnl (24) and a wall (24) out the way I’m still presented with a bit of the set model in the way...... what crazily obvious thing am I missing? Is the actual physical position of the fixture wrong???
    thanks!!

  • ujamesck - I didn't change the physical positions of any fixtures.  For Ch 253 I needed to move a wall object slightly downstage (and maybe make it slightly narrower) and I was then able to get pretty close to the shot as in the focus notes.  Here's what my Ch253 looks like - probably not perfect but reasonably close.  The red lines are the edges of the piece of "columnl" that I moved. In my showfile it is the 6th entry in the Group: columns - it is now at Position (3.6981, -18.155, -8.8981) and has Size (1.1712, 3.3398, 9.2756)

  • Ah thank you! I obviously have notifications turned off for this forum as didn't see your reply! Thank you! I shall try and work with those hints when I next get to the desk I've left it all on! :)
