full-color high res gobos in a showgun

As long as it is a "true" glass gobo it should last a very long time in SHOWGUN.

If you need "photo-realistic" detail...the SHWOGUN optics are not quite good enough for that, but you can get a great looking image from them....keep in mind that they are about as "sharp" in optocal quality as a Cyberlight.

There was an issue in the earlier fixture firmware related to indexing gobos with SHOWGUN, where once the the fixture was HOME-ed it would not check the index location of the gobos......this might have been fixed, but if not it could affecgt what you are doing if you need precise positioning....but as long as the fixture is powered and recieveing DMX it will repeat positions just fine,

As output goes, even a regular SHOWGUN will beat the new Mac III easily in output.

Thanks for the info. The gobo is just a corporate logo for all practical purposes. It just will be technically a high res full color gobo even though it's only probably 4 colors total. But basically, a corporate logo. Still think it would be ok? Obviously, as long as it punches and is in focus, that's all I'm going for. I wouldn't expect it to be able to make an accurate quality earth gobo come to life, but for corporate, I would hope so.

This would be my first experience with one of these beasts, so I wasn't really sure what to think. I'm seen them up close and watched them, but never actually used one before.

No matter, thanks for the info. My other option is a vari-lite 3000, and I think this would be the best option for what we're doing...let me know if you agree. We're going to have a VL probably as background moving imagery that doesn't affect the logo directly. Heck, maybe I can use the LED ring to create some fun too!

Oh, and the change from day to day wouldn't kill me. I've had to deal with that before in fixutres of many manufacturers, whether it's fun or not, I have done it. Oh man, I remember back to a day when a Studiospot 250 (as for some reason the gobo was cut for that and nothing more normal) would never hold the same when I even dimmed it to black and back up....it would change....it was insanity...I would have to do it on the fly during the show, and of course the logo was right behind the speaker's head!

The SHOWGUN will absolutely kill the VL as far as output goes. The optical clarity should be just fine for a corportate logo.....The VL will have a much broader zoom range and better optical clarity, but the SHOWGUN will be MUCH brighter.

I assumed it would kill in output. The zoom range in this case is actually what I'm trying to kill, consequently. I'm hitting a set piece almost exactly 55' away that is only 10' wide at it's widest point (it's a circular truss 10' diameter). So really, I need the tight zoom that either a VL (down to 10 degrees) or a Showgun (down to 9 degrees) can afford. It's like it was made for just this application!

I know it's going to absolutely kill anything I could otherwise shoot. They want a hard punch in an expo center with all the merc-vapors on at full the whole time....so I too want a solid punch that I can guarantee to the client without any worry of getting washed out! I figure at 2000 watts I'm nearly guaranteed that...and it's in the budget, so heck, rock out.

Well then yes, I'd definitely go with the SHOWGUN then....or a 2.5 one if you can get one.

The 2.5 would be awesome, but I know that I can at least get a standard showgun for a decent price, so I'm happy there. A 2.5 would be pretty sweet though!

I've used the Showgun 2.0 for projecting custon high-res black and white gobos off of an hockey ice surface.

The image was so bright and clear as day with all the standard hockey lights on. They worked incredibly well.

I ran into the gobo problem as well at the time and yes, it's been fixed in the new software that incorporates the gobo animation effect.

Thanks for the thoughts. I know that hockey rinks are brighter than everything with the reflection on the ice. Awesome that the gobo problem has been fixed! I'm looking forward to it....hope it doesn't cancel, like things seem to happen lately.

If you want bright try to find an old Comar Nat 4K ive shot gobos 500ft from that fixture and the focus is still good and clear
