Hey there,
I am installing a few new fixtures (in the subject line) and want to know if there is a generic fixture in the library I can use? Would it be easiest to use the Venue in 3 channel or 7 channel mode?
Thanks for the help.

A quick look at the manual indicates that it is very close to the existing "PAR 38" in the library. So, you could patch it as Generic RGB LED 8B and run it in 3-channel mode, or copy and edit the PAR 38 personality to add a dimmer channel (and possibly some other small changes) and run it in 7-channel mode.
Because the Eos/Gio/Ion software has a lot of control over colour/intensity, etcetera - you probably won't find much advantage in the 7-channel mode, to be honest.

Thanks! That worked like a charm. I assume I can use the same generic profile for the Venue Thinpar too? I am going to try it tomorrow (I don't have the right DMX cable for the ficxture).
have you tried creating a fixture using fixture editor?
I mean our DMX splitter. I thout about the universe thing too, but I have some chauvet colorstrips running off the on stage DMX splitter that work just fine. They are on universe 1 (address is 200) so I am not sure what the issue is.
I realized that it is not the profile since it works FOH but not on stage.
try first principle. check Cables and connections might be just a bad cable on stage

Thanks, I tried at least 5 cables as well as the know good cable from my working colorstrips.
Did the cable option Work?
No, it's not the cable. The known good one didn't worth either. I am thinking it might be a universe thing.
if its not cables, then its either a universe or addressing issue. remember that patching fixtures on each universe above the first one, need to be written 2/DMX Address, 3/DMX address and so on. Or second universe starts at 513 to 1024. 3rd universe starts at 1025. if your address of your fixtures are starting at 200, and they are on a second universe then you need to patch as 2/200 and so on.
So back to cables.....is the stage locations wired to a second universe.
Thanks for the suggestions. I am not on site today, but now that I think about it, I mounted a couple big movers a month ago and they are on universe 2. They worked perfectly and they are using the DMX splitter on stage.
my question is, the fixtures I am trying to add say they are only addressable up to 512. If they need to be on universe 2, how can that work?
sk8rs_dad said:You can live at 171 Main St. and somebody else can live at 171 Oak St. and the mail still gets to both houses even though they share the same address (171). The universe (1 or 2) is the street name.
So if this is the case and the universe doesn't matter I am really stumped. I know they are addressed and patched correctly (since they work FOH) so I don't know where to go.
very likely your FOH fixture addresses dont go all the way up to 200 and are on one universe. where you want to put them seems to be on another Universe. So like brynden says....the number remains the same, but teh street needs to change. So on the fixture the DMX will only go up to 512....dont change that unless other fixtures have the same address. What you have to change is the patch on the console. cant rememebr which Console you are using, but if they worked on 200 at FOH I am pressuming FOH is universe 1. therefore try addressing your units on stage now starting at 2/200 or 712
Thanks for all the help guys. The fixtures do work FOH and it most likely is universe 1. So when I patch the fixture I do it just like normal but assign it universe 2 addresses? I.e. if the fixture is using address 7 assign it 519 in the console?
just remember to do it for each fixture. Mixxing up addresses is common. Just the other day i had forgot I had all my LEDs on Universe 2. relocated console and plugged everything into Universe 1, and took an hou to figure out what a duffus i was.
OK guys, sorry it took so long to get back to this. The dmx on stage is in fact universe 2. So here is my question. The light bars I have on stage are on channel 200, address 712-715. And the DMX address on the light bars is set to 200. So if I want to patch my new fixture to channel 120, would I use addresses 632-635? Then set the dmx address on the fixture to 120?
Sorry for all the questions, I am fairly new to lighting.
you still didnt say which console you were using. but if it is any of the eos software consoles then, let the console do the math and just enter the address on the console with the 2/Address on fixture. 2 being the universe. Glad you got it sorted though.
