What are the benefits of a multipart cue as opposed to two or more normal cues carrying out the same functions?
Going back to an earlier post asking how to zero ML intensity while moving but restore on stop. Would a multipart cue be more suitable?

Wuz - any chance you could make this two picutres is there? I'm having trouble reading the smaller text. From what I can see this looks like a Multipart cue and I'd like to see the detials to compare with the Follow cue idea from Cody.
Don't worry about new pics - I managed to read it and put it in a spreadsheet for my desk notes.
This is what I think I see happening;
Cue 1 is a regular cue with some dimmers set and our ML Int at 60 with a focus set by CT (Is that a FP?)
Cue 2 last 5 seconds and sets up a 'Forward' F2.6. Is this 2.6 secs or ref to a cue 2.6?
P1 of 2 Apart from some dimmer changes we see our ML go to zero and the focus changes to TB
P2 of 2 Say the Movers fade out. But didn't this happen above?
P3 of 2 Now the movers move! Again see P1.
2.1 in this new cue (nothing to do with cue 2 above) the ML's intensity is set back up.
But - if the Fw/Hg F2.6 was ref to a cue 2.6 this would jump 2.1?
I suspect this is not perhaps the way things were entered but merely the way the spread sheet is showing us what happens. Clearly I have to learn how to plug this stuff in and get down to some serious reading here.
Click on image. Right click. Select "View image". . . . That will make it full screen w/ zoom.
In a multipart Q, grey items change in a different Part.
Q2 P1
Q2 P2
Q2 P3
Q2.1
Total time to complete Q2 + Q2.1 = 5.0 seconds.
Does that help?
Oh yes it does, indeed.Thank you for going to all that trouble. All cut'n pasted into my notes, Today I was able to record a simple Follow, a Hang and a simple Multipart so the bits are coming together. With your notes I reckon I should have this under control very soon now.
In Q2 P2 how was that delay of 2.6 and then the moves are to occur in 0 secs made? I'm finding a lot on Delay but mainly for Fanning where an incremental delay occurs. Still can't see where/how we say, once delay is complete then execute in 0 time.
Delay and Time are hard keys right next to the Shift key. You can apply both of them to a cue, or a part of a cue, or to specific channels/parameters for discrete timing. Syntax here would be Cue 2 Part 3 Delay 2.6 Time 0, though the order of applying a delay or a time to a cue doesn’t matter, and they can also be separate commands.
I've used the 'Time' before but wasn't sure how to wrap up it and the delay. Or if the zero execute meant cue time. I left early today to settle in for a good session to crack this stuff. We received 6 MLs this am. 4 of them have problems with their menus!!!
Cody. I spent hours and finally got a blind spreadsheet to look just like yours. But when I tried to reprodue it things went downhill! I am not sure of the order of things. After writing a start cue Q1 do I then make the End Result cue Q2.1 and then select parts of it to go into MPQ2 parts? I'm sure this is one of those things when I get it I'm going ot wonder how I made it so diffiult.
Interestigly I was in the booth this am with a very smart guy who is new to the board and he observed the ML moving between cues and asked me how to get rid of it,. When I told him a needed a MPQ and a Follow he commented that as this seemed a pretty common task (turn off light, move, turn on light) he was surprised there was not a much simpler way to do it. I actually dread having to go thorugh all this with the guys who will be putting the cues in place for the show.
you don't *need* part cues to do this. you can have cues 1, 2 and 3. cue 1: ML is on on position A, cue 2: ML is off (fades to 0 while still on position A), cue 3: fades in on position B. to make the ML pre-position automatically you can use the automark function of the console.
the parts come into play when you want to manage timing because the ML that needs to be faded out to re-position should fade out faster than the rest of the cue. as someone else has mentioned parts are a way for data managment. you can use them, you most certainly don't need to use them. neither do you have to use the follow. of yourse you can manually press Go
Oh lordy this does seem easier at least for real novices. If I remember right, to 'keep' the ML at its old position (from Q1) as I go into Q2 I use the [AT] (to stop autmark).
I made those three cues. Much easier to understand. Looking a my blind sheet cue 2 which fades the ML is showing MK in green (Mark). The P&T etc though show Q3 in green - what is this.
The Auto mark should set up the focus to the next postion only when the intensity is moving away from zero - so I don't need to do the [AT] {out] [Update] right?
green MK: green = intensity value that's lower than in the cue before. in your case it's like a green 0. MK = as soon as then intensity hits 0 the console willl mark the fixture.
automark happens when you press Go for the cue before the intensity goes up (if the fixture already had been at 0), or if the fixture is only fading out in the previous cue, the automark will happen when the Go has completed
The Auto mark should set up the focus to the next postion only when the intensity is moving away from zero - so I don't need to do the [AT] {out] [Update] right?
this wouldn't work. after all you want to the fixtures to fade up when you press go, and not wait for the automark to complete
Forgot to mention we are using 'Cue Only' . I'm using two FPs so where do those green Q3s come from? . The manual says ELE2 ONLY has Automark and it is OFF by default. Looking at settings I can see {Mark Timing] but can't find how to enable disable our Automark. And final question for 2019; Using mostly regular dimmers with a couple of MLs for a regular stage play scenario are we better off using or not using Automark?.
Element2 has automark on by default, pretty sure about that.
if a channel shows MK (this can be in magenta or green), one or more parameters or one or more parameter categories will show for which cue they're automarking. so in cue 2 they would show MK and Q3 (which reads as "cue 3").
leave it on.
p156 notes "AutoMark is disabled by default" but I forgot the manual covers all the EOS systems. And, as I can't find any Automark on/off toggle I reckon our ELE2 is very much on and will stay that way. Thank you..
