Hog III control via Iphone

I have been trying to get the iphone to work as a remote for hog III.
I saw a thread that said there was a podcast to show how it is done but I can't find it.
Anybody know how to do this.
I tried to download vnc for iphone and get it talking to the mac but to no avail.
If somebody has step by step instruction on how to accomplish this I would be greatly a in HOG HEAVEN.

Remote focus of movers via iphone wow.

    Sorry Mike...just saw this.

There should be no need for any calibration that I know of. The only thing I can think of is that you need to make sure that Hog3PC is "fronted" on the computer. Otherwise, the computer just thinks you're typing. I always click on the front panel and make sure that the keyboard is in MAP mode before using the phone.

Let us know what you find...
  • Please excuse me for my ignorance on this topic, im very new to networking, never needed to do it before,

I may be barking up the wrong tree with the above solution to use ipod touch as a remote,

If i explain what im aiming to do maybe you could help me a little more.

I simply want to use my ipod touch to turn dimmer channels on whilst focussing, ill be using hog3 pc on my laptop so i need to setup the connection between the ipod touch and the laptop

Is this just a case of VNC to trigger the laptop from the phone??

Im having a nightmare trying to get vnc lite and real vnc to talk on windows 7 just keeps popping up error message saying host closed the session.

    Hope this makes sense

    Mike,

The App I built is using the Snatch server app as the backbone. There is a desktop server required, but looking at the site, it only lists XP and Vista. It might work with Windows 7, but as I'm a Mac user, I have no idea.

    www.hoofien.com/Snatch/downloads.html

For the iTouch itself, you need the Snatch app from the iTunes store. It's $3.99.
    www.itunes.com/apps/snatch

Now, the reason I went this route is that I was never able to get VNC Lite to connect properly. With Snatch, you launch the server on your 3PC machine in the background, connect the iTouch and you can use the screens that Scott and I came up with to use the keypad, choose buttons, etc.

With our screens and Snatch, I use it all the time to recall dimmer channels, LEDs, etc. It can do pretty much anything there is a keyboard shortcut for (ie NOT the encoder wheels). All of the buttons are already mapped and, as long as you make sure the laptop is in MAP mode, you'll be good to go.

Unfortunately, I cannot help you with the VNC lite as I was never able to get it to work properly either.

  • Jon

i managed to get the Snatch working and it was controlling the mouse on the desktop, but like i said, as soon as i opened the Hog pc and had the application fronted as you said it seemed to go non responsive

Very strange, i thought i may be going down the wrong route and that the snatch setup was to be used via a laptop when using a Hog 3 console, and the laptop in the network triggered the desk as opposed to the hog 3pc running on the laptop

Sorry if that doesnt all make sense
  • Problem resolved,

Mst be some conflict between windows 7 and snatch, i ran the snatch server in xp comatible mode and all works great

    Thanks very much

    Great work
  • THanks Nunny...that was going to be my next suggestion to contact the Snatch people and see about Windows 7 issues.

    Glad it worked out!
  • Hello. How would I go about getting the iPhone/iPod Touch application now that Snatch is not available in the App store?
  • [QUOTE=tbrennan;48215]Hello. How would I go about getting the iPhone/iPod Touch application now that Snatch is not available in the App store?

Unfortunately, I have not found a replacement program in App store that does what Snatch was able to do. If you find something, please let me know and I'll see what I can do with it.

So, if you don't already have Snatch, there isn't anything else I can do at the moment.

    Sorry.
  • Just Checked hoofien.com/Snatch/index.html The devs for Snatch's website and they announced aug 3rd that they will be making a comeback to the app store!!!!!
  • that is fantastic news. Hope someone is working on new screens for the ipad.

I thought about making screens for the iPad as I have recently acquired one, however, the Snatch app (currently) is not iPad specific. All it is available for is the iPhone which means, when you run it on the iPad, it's just the 2x version. However, it does make it much nicer to have HUGE buttons. :)

As was posted above, they are working on new versions, maybe there will be an iPad version.

What screens would you like to see? I'd love to revisit them if there are things you feel are missing.

  • Let's hope that there will be an ipad version in the future for Snatch. The screens that you did are fantastic and I can't think of anything I need for the iphone version. For the ipad version you might think about combining screens. I will have to think about that a little more. I just got my ipad this week and still getting used to it.

  • I'm currently debating buying an ipad since my tablet pc died(yay warrenty credit instore), but had a thought for combining screens for an "Ipad Version". Since the Ipad simply takes ipod/iphone apps and makes them 2x bigger, why not simply make the buttons 2x smaller on the ipad skin. then they will be normal size and in theory should fit 2x the buttons.

This is definitely something I have thought about, but I just haven't had time to try it yet.
